time to get comfortable.

A couple weeks ago, my friend KB happened to be wearing a great wrap from Lululemon. It looked effortlessly classy and comfortable and its big neck and cotton-stretch makes it the perfect throw-on to layer with just after the gym or for your casual Saturday. Meet the Savasana Wrap. That's the good news.

Now, the bad news? It is currently unavailable. That said, based on my conversation in the store today, it is very likely coming back soon. I am including pictures below so you can get as excited as I am about it. And, please trust that the pictures don't do justice (it also looks much better in the white/cream style), you should go stalk it down in store like me when it arrives!

a proper tribute.

The eulogy posted in today's New York Times in tribute to Steve Jobs and given by his sister at his funeral made me tear up. Truly moving and really quite something, I strongly recommend for your Sunday night read. Click Here.

ShopHouse.

A and I went to ShopHouse Kitchen yesterday for lunch. It was fantastic! DC is in desperate need of some more affordable, quality food places. ShopHouse meets the bill. It is southeast Asian inspired and serves up rice and noodle bowls with spicy sauces and combinations of herbs, vegetables and meat. Also of note, ShopHouse is actually owned by Chipotle. Take a look at our great noodle bowls from today, $7.95 and perfectly satisfying!

Gilt. Tart. Infinity Dress.

Gilt has a sale today on dresses by Tart. I am in love with the style! The dresses almost remind me of Issa dresses, though obviously much cheaper.

The best part is that the three short dresses above are all the same style dress. It is one dress with eight different ways to wear it. Don't worry, I have done the research for you, and on the Tart website, they include a video showing the different ways to tie and wear it. Since this blog is full service, I have also included the video below. Basically, its eight dresses for the price of one. I am very tempted!

snap happy.

Sometimes I feel a little starved for culture in DC. So, when I make discoveries like I did yesterday, it makes me very (very) happy! DC's photography scene has been on the rise and now FotoDC has opened a gallery in Adams Morgan - FotoSpace.  And, to top it off, their annual festival starts next week with weeklong exhibitions, lectures, and workshops. I don't have the time for much of it this year, but I am so excited there is a growing scene developing in DC and you should go if you have time! Go to - www.fotoweekdc.org/ - for all the details.

scarf season.

I love wraps and scarves! For women, I think it is our equivalent to the tie. In the same way that some men obsess over their knot and the different ways to tie it, I am always wishing I used more creative ways to wear a scarf. Until now! My friend, Em, just sent me this fantastic video. It's your own personal tutorial and reference video for the many ways to wear your scarf/wrap. Not to mention, a good way to get excited for the dreaded winter. Now, go forth and start doing!

π + beer.

Yesterday morning, while running some errands, I stumbled upon a newly opened pizzeria, District of Pi Pizzeria on F street in Penn Quarter. The door was ajar and I couldn't help but sneak a peak inside. I was duly impressed. It was 10:00 a.m. and obviously not open but the manager invited me in for a quick tour and after the 2 minutes, I decided to head back for dinner with a group of friends.

The restaurant opened about six weeks ago and I can happily report back it was a great experience!  The bar area is long and comfortable and the beer selection is solid. The host was on top of it and did a spot-on job of juggling the front area. The dining area has exposed brick and great tables and the service was very well done. Most importantly, the pizza did not disappoint. The menu offers deep and thin crust pizzas with corn meal crusts. Our group ordered two small pies and two large pies. All of it was eaten. In short, I will go back and recommend you do the same!

flash sale heaven.

Early last year I discovered a monthly flash-sale in Buckeystown, Maryland that I consider a gold-mine!  I went to visit in July with my good friend Wason, and have been wanting to get back since. I finally got a chance to drive back out on Friday. The flash-sale is held in three barns packed with vintage finds! The furniture pieces make me wish I had a whole house to decorate and every month the vendors have a whole new stock of finds. See below to get an idea. I definitely recommend it. And for those coming from DC, apparently there is a lovely drive through farm country along the local roads that makes the trip all the better!

(i loved this mirror and circled it 3 or 4 times)

(I found these pillows tucked in the back...they reminded me of the dish-towels that B loves and if only I had been to Paris, maybe I would have...)

(beautiful furniture...and this is just a sampling)

(i love this file box for a big desk)

(letters and numbers seem to be the theme of the day)

rolling in the deep...

Adele's Tiny Desk Concert on NPR. Go. Listen. The next time you have a craving to hear her unbelievable voice, this trio of songs feels like a personal concert. This is from last February, but I just rediscovered it and at the moment, it is hitting the spot!

She plays, "Someone Like You", "Chasing Pavements", and "Rolling in the Deep" and right after that you will want to go buy yourself some tickets the next time she is in town.

by the yard.

I have been wanting to reupholster my kitchen chairs since I bought them last spring. I had planned to use fabric from the assortment I brought back from Africa, but unfortunately none of them are quite right. I also don't fare well in fabric stores. I tried one in Petoskey this summer and left after five minutes totally overwhelmed. Fast forward 6 months and I finally found the answer - Spoonflower.com.

This website is bad news for anyone with a fetish for fabric, but good news for my kitchen chairs. This has been on my to-do list for far too long, so it is about time I get to it. See below for an example, and a swatch of what I am considering as of now...

in the market for...

...a new couch.

I keep coming back to this couch I spotted recently in an urban outfitters catalogue. I am skeptical about how comfortable it really is, but I like the look of it. And, how great that it folds down to sleep on, right?

For now, the price is too steep to take the plunge, so I am back to looking for a deal online, but it is serving as good inspiration and food for thought!

autumnal colors.

I visited Ann Arbor this weekend, and the fall colors were out in force. It seems Michigan is ahead of DC and the leaves were already falling. It was the perfect preview to get excited for the changing colors to come. I couldn't help but start listing in my head everything I love about the fall season...

to love about fall

crunchy leaves
apple cider
rain boots
apple picking
butternut squash soup
fleeces, coats, layers, boots & scarves
crisp air
dark nail polish
pumpkin flavor
colorful corn
the smell of fall
sleeping with the window open
driving through puddles

find of the week!

I found these Cole Haan wedges last week while perusing Current Boutique on 14th with my good friend A. They look like new, fit perfectly and are surprisingly comfortable, meant to be!

As it is getting cold and rainy season has begun, I probably won't make use of these until spring 2012 but I am looking forward to it!

feeling blue.

Every so often there is a posting on craigslist with refurbished pieces in this sharp blue color. I started seeing the posts last year. I love the color ("French Country Blue") and the lightly distressed vintage look to it. I certainly don't have the room for it and not sure I could pull off the color, but I started saving the pictures so I can tackle this DIY project down the line!

What do you think? Too blue or are you the feeling blue now as well?
