rich girl.

I have been playing this cover on repeat for the last week, thought you all might enjoy too! Now I am just waiting for Lake Street Dive to come through SF on tour....

week's end.

Oh man, I am really ready for the weekend. What are your plans? We don't have all that much scheduled. We are, of course, going to MK's spinning class tomorrow and a long training run on Sunday morning. And we'll be watching the Final Four games tomorrow night and going to dinner up at my brother's in-law's house in Orinda on Sunday night. A nice and casual spring weekend...hope that you have something good planned!

And, for your weekend reading, here are some links of interest...

new year resolve.

Have you heard Baz Luhrmann's "Wear Sunscreen" hit? You should. Ben and Ali went to Soul Cycle on Saturday (I had to work) and MK (our favorite instructor) played this song at the end. We listened to it on the way home, and I love it! We thought it was by Kurt Vonnegut, but turns out it was written by a Chicago Tribune columnist in 1997 and later Luhrmann turned it into a hit song. While everyone is running around talking about their resolutions for the year (I will spare you mine!) - I figured you might appreciate this...

church it up.

I am crawling to the finish line of this week - it's a brutal one. But these two songs are currently on repeat, so I figured I would pass it along. Electric Church by Mike Taylor is a little too poppy and upbeat for my normal but MK (our Soul Cycle instructor that I have a serious girl crush on) put it on one of her lists and was loving it a couple months ago. And Like a Dream by Francis and the Lights came highly recommended from a good friend who is young and cool and has his pulse on the music scene. A Wednesday gift for all of you...

music monday.

I have been scavenging for new music for the last month. All of a sudden, I have been craving new playlists and listening to a bunch of new stuff. The latest song I am obsessed with (thanks to Stephanie) is this cover by Kid Harpoon and Florence Welch of I'm Goin Down. It is amazing. And long. And perfect to play on repeat...happy Monday everybody!

revival.

Ben and I were bummed last year when we heard that HR-57 was shutting down on H Street. This was announced just after we had gone a couple times (click here for a flashback post on that). But Ben spotted this great news yesterday, HR-57 will be doing a pop-up for the next 2-3 years behind Union Market! We can't wait to take Ben's dad...who loves jazz...and also happy to meet up with any and everyone there - should be a great three season spot!

enya.

We got to talking about Enya at some point in January with some friends, and I finally got around to adding some of my Enya back on to my iphone last week. Remember Enya? Amazing. I forgot how much I love her!

atlas.

Ben and I went on a short but sweet date last night in the neighborhood. We walked over to the Atlas Theater (which neither of us had been to before) to hear/watch the National Symphony Orchestra! It was part of the NSO In Your Neighborhood program. Ben bought two tickets for $2 a pop. We loved it. Not to mention, it was about time we get over to the famous the Atlas Theater. It was so nice just to sit and listen to music in the neighborhood!

gypsy living.

I emailed Ben last night about Gypsy Sally's. I can't wait for him to be in DC for good and for us to be able to explore...and more specifically to see more live music. It is not something I like to do on my own and for some reason, having him around prompts it out of me. So yay for Gypsy Sally's. I am really excited to check it out and hopefully we make this more of our routine. After we see live music we always comment on how we need to do it more....so here's to a new venue for motivation!

a voice.

While at the National Portrait Gallery with Uyen, I read this bit about Marian Anderson next to her portrait. I snapped a picture as a reminder to look up her Lincoln Memorial concert...

...and my god did she have a beautiful voice! Here is the Smithsonian Spotlight piece on it for a 1 minute history lesson!

illuminated.

It's a beautiful summer Friday and we are headed out to Virginia to see the Lumineers tonight! Very much looking forward to a night of music with friends....

call me maybe.

Everyone should go buy Carly Rae's terrible music and show some support!

luminated.

It has been one of those weeks. For me, my default coping mechanism when I don't like the day I am in is to look forward to another. Is that just me or do you all do that too?  Anyway, in good news and proof of this, Ben and I bought tickets to go see the Lumineers on July 26. Very excited. To see The Lumineers? Yes. But also for Ben to be back in DC for the summer!

street music.

You have to, have to go watch this on the NYTimes, 'Solo, Piano - NYC'. Ben just sent it to me saying that I would love it (very sweet in of itself!). Here's the thing, you have to watch the full thing. Amazing. Unexpected. Just beautiful. Simply brilliant. You won't regret it. Go. now.

run on.

Just found out about this great site for running music, runningplaylist.net.

The site posts new playlists and even songs of the week for your running list. So, even if you aren't a runner or don't work out to music, it is a constant source for some upbeat music to get your heart pumping! Here is a sample playlist below...

Mumford & Sons.

Mike just put me on to this Mumford & Sons song, "I Will Wait". Not a good sign when your friend is in Germany scouting out new music but it's a keeper and should help everyone get through Thursday to Friday!

mynabirds.

A second music recommendation for the week. Several different people in the last couple weeks have mentioned the Mynabirds to me. I finally got around to listening to a little of their music last week.  Now, I think you should too! They actually were at the Black Cat in DC last Saturday, I realized it Friday night and played with the idea of going, but didn't in the end. Anyway, to get you started, below is the NPR Tiny Desk Concert they did last week while in DC...

comes and goes.

Been a while since I have posted any new music. Mostly because I have been very absent from the music scene this year. But, I am loving this song, Come and Goes by Greg Laswell. Take a listen below...
