shored up.

We escaped the city for the weekend and I had no idea how much I needed some distance. We rented a car and headed out to the Maryland shore late Friday night. Aaron and Brittany invited us out to his parent's house near Chestertown, Maryland. We hung out Friday night and woke up Saturday morning to this...
Ben and Aaron went for a morning swim to wake things up...

We headed into town to Evergrain Bakery.

To say Ben and I were bowled over would be an understatement. It was phenomenal. We bought 8 or 9 of their pastries and had a breakfast feast.

After breakfast, we tried to walk it off around town. Chestertown is charming and cute and also where Aaron and Brittany are getting married next summer...

On the drive back from town, we passed the Yellow Brick Road...

We played croquet...

and hung out on the long dock...

Oh yeah, and then we tied four tubes together, threw down an anchor and just sat drifting in the water drinking beers...
We started on dinner in the late afternoon and took the boat to the Marina to pick up crabs. On the way back, we took a short detour to water ski...

In addition to the crabs, we threw on hot dogs, corn and burgers...

Did I mention we had crabs?

We ate outside at the picnic table. It started to rain during the meal and we just sat there eating crabs in the rain. It was great.

Post-dinner included coffee and sunset on the dock...

We then regrouped and after dessert, started up the fire pit...Ben was in heaven at this point.

It was a very late night but we woke the next morning and headed straight back to Evergrain Bakery to pick up baguettes. We are both in agreement that they are the best baguettes we have had on the East Coast. Hands down.

By Sunday morning, the sky had cleared and it was a gorgeous clear day. So, we headed out on the boat for a tour of the rivers, water skiing, and some tubing...

And we finished off the visit with a lunch of ribs and fresh tomatoes...

It was a short visit - just a day and a half but we packed in a lot.

We drove back to DC exhausted but rested with no traffic on the Bay Bridge! And Ben talked Evergrain Bakery every 8 to 10 miles...
