finders keepers.

Over the last couple weeks, Ben and I have been enthralled by the neighborhoods east of Logan Circle. They are interesting and dynamic. They have some grit to them and a cool energy. In turn, our list of places to check out in these other neighborhoods is growing by leaps and bounds. On Friday, we ventured very far east to Brookland to head to a great new pizza place, Menomale. Ben will travel far distances for any kind of napoletana pizza and this was so worth it!

First, we walked to the bus stop where we waited for the G8. I sat on the curb, Ben kept a lookout.

We love the DC bus system and have an unspoken pride in riding it and our knowledge of the bus-lines. Anyway, so we bused over to 7th and Franklin NE. Then we walked a bit more, including over these tracks.

Menomale is a small restaurant right at 12th and Franklin.

We met our friends, Dan and Beth, there and proceeded to eat ourselves into pizza oblivion. It was fantastic. The Margherita and the Quattro Stagioni pizzas were amazing.

The beer selection was also very good, including this Hell or High Watermelon beer that Ben loved.

And, we finished off the meal with this amazing dessert. Pizza dough stuffed with nutella. No more description necessary, it was delicious!

At this point in the evening, we were so thrilled by our new find that Ben and I suggested we go check out a bar we had spotted from the bus earlier and it was back in the direction of Logan Circle. So, we all jumped in a cab and drove the half distance back to Boundary Stone. It was awesome.

It is on Rhode Island about 2 miles east of Logan Circle and so cool! It wasn't hipster meets H street but it still had a very rough, laid back feel to it. It just felt like a great neighborhood bar. Great selection, nice people, loved it! They also had a free juke box and this gorgeous DC stained glass.

We were thrilled by the whole night. We have been a little bored by same old spots in DC and these were two major finds. In fact, the pizza/experience was so good, we are likely taking Ben's parents back this weekend when they come for a quick visit!
