Ben's parents came to DC for a quick visit last weekend. It was great! We did a lot in the 48 hours they were here. Ben took them to the Hirshorn (sadly I had to work for this part), we dropped by jazz in the garden..always a summer must, we went to Pearl Dive Oyster Palace for dinner and to Masa 14 for a drink on the roof. We also walked 14th street with them and proceeded to clean out the sale section of Rue 14 (it's my hidden gem above Home Rule!). After that, Ben and I walked them around parts of a neighborhood we have our eye on to buy a place. We also went to lunch at Shaw's Tavern. But the big event was going up to Baltimore to introduce them to Woodberry Kitchen!
Ben and I were both a little nervous. We had such a great great meal there with Josh and Erin that we were worried that it wouldn't live up to the past experience and all of our hype. Not to worry, it was as good as remembered! (See here for the post from before and a reminder of that glorious food). We got our table 86, tucked up on the second floor. Our drinks were outstanding. Ben had this melon cocktail that was captivating. Our appetizers were strong and our ribeye and pork were perfectly done. I can't put words to the potatoes gratin they came out with! The entire night was pure reassurance of everything we remembered and Ben's parents loved it.
The other part I loved was going back a second time and noticing new details. It is like seeing a movie the second time around, knowing the story-line and the highlights, and focusing in on the nuances. Like this little quote on the menu..."if you're after getting the honey / Then you don't go killing all the bees."
