tunnel vision.

DC is obviously steeped in history. But the Dupont tunnels are especially intriguing! I had read several years back that an Arts Coalition for the Dupont Underground had been organized to turn the tunnels into a space. Unfortunately, to date there hasn't been much progress on it. Nevertheless, the story is so interesting and this morning on my walk down to the metro I suddenly started remembering and decided to dig up some of the old pictures.

In 1924, a truck's tires sank into one of the tunnels and exposed the underground construction.
Upon further exploration, they discovered incredibly constructed tunnels that extended, in some cases, as far as Rock Creek Park. People were captivated by the mystery of it. Stories abounded that perhaps it was a stop on the Underground Railroad or a Confederate Hideout.
Alas, it was not that exciting. Harrison Gray Dyar eventually came forward and admitted to digging the tunnels. Apparently, he just had a thing for it and dug tunnels after work as his hobby. Weird? Yes. But still very cool!

I can't wait for the day that it is developed into an underground winery and space
